Building confidence, creativity and community

Based at Printers Playhouse in Eastbourne, PYT gives young people the chance to explore theatre, develop new skills and be part of a creative community. It's open to young people who want to perform on stage, as well as those who are interested in storytelling, creativity and teamwork.

Printers Youth Theatre was created as an inclusive and empowering space for young people. Sessions are designed to help participants build confidence, develop performance skills and express themselves in a supportive environment.

There is no expectation that everyone wants to be the centre of attention. Young people are encouraged to take part in a way that feels comfortable for them, while discovering new talents and building self-belief.

Learning through theatre

Workshops combine a range of activities, including:

  • acting and character work

  • improvisation

  • script work

  • devised theatre

  • musical theatre

  • movement and performance skills

  • creative storytelling

These activities help young people develop communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, while having fun and making lasting friendships.

Performing on stage

Throughout the year, participants work towards performances and productions that allow them to share their work with audiences.

Recent programmes have included musical theatre projects, with young people developing their skills across rehearsals, workshops and live performances. The emphasis is on learning, personal development and enjoying the experience of creating theatre together.

Printers Playhouse is one of Eastbourne's most active creative venues, hosting theatre, live music, workshops and community arts projects. PYT forms an important part of that wider creative offer, giving local young people a pathway into performing arts and helping to nurture the next generation of performers, creators and arts enthusiasts.

Young people benefit from learning in a working arts venue, surrounded by artists, performers and creative professionals who regularly use the space. This helps them gain first-hand experience of how theatre is created and brought to life.
